    How it all started...

In 1999 my wife and I visited New Zealand on our honeymoon trip. One of the places that we fell in love with in particular, apart from all the spectacular nature, was the Art Deco City of Napier.

As a kid I loved building LEGO cities with my mum. Once, after my dark ages, I started building MOCs (my own creations) with LEGO bricks and I wanted to build some of these wonderful buildings. However, space has always been a challenge and I shelfed the project until the opportunity arose: a large workshop room shared with a friend. This was in the year 2020...I made a big big plan and started building. First was the coastline with the buildings on the waterfront: the sundial, the soundshell and park. But I did not make it to the Art Deco buildings themselves. One reason has been: I wanted a working car system to have moving vehicles on the road. So I stopped building and started other projects instead.

  How it continued...
In January 2025 my eldest son and I did a trip to Australia to visit the ANE event Brickvention in Melbourne. I met lots of Aussies and Kiwis. The idea resparked. Then my youngest son spent some weeks in New Zealand and posted many pictures. It was clear: I need to go to New Zealand again and I should continue the project!
