| National Bank On the corner of Hastings and Emerson Street there is now the rather new building of ANZ Napier branch right next to the Masonic Hotel complex. However, initially in the 1930s after the earthquake, two other buildings were erected at the same place. On the corner, 90 Hastings Street the National Bank was built in 1933 in Stripped Classical style as two storeys reinforced concrete building by Fletscher Constructions & Co with Atkin & Mitchell as architects. Although modernized in 1963 the building was demolished together with the Narwich Union Building in 1983 to make space for the new ANZ building. ![]() Original Two-tone plasdter finish randomly coloured to resemble Sydney sandstone (buff/biscuit) |
